In only the seventh playoff game of his early career, Luka Doncic was spectacular in a win over the LA Clippers. As the leader of the Dallas Mavericks, he finished with 31 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds.
After the game, Mavericks Head Coach Rick Carlisle said that Doncic is built for the playoffs.
“This is his time of year. He’s one of the smartest basketball players you will ever meet at any age at any level.”
Doncic is certainly a savvy player, who’s performed at an extremely high level to this point in his career, especially in the playoffs.
According to Justin Kubatko of Basketball Reference, Doncic is the now first player in NBA history to record three triple-doubles in his first seven playoff games. Furthermore, after his opening performance of the 2021 postseason, he’s now the second player to record at least 200p/50r/50a through his first seven playoff games (Oscar Robertson).
In his postgame media availability, Doncic expressed his excitement to be back in the playoffs.
He would go on to he asked about the MVP award and whether not being in consideration at this point bothered him. To Luka, that isn’t important, as he’s got another goal in mind.
“I don’t really care about MVP,” said Doncic postgame. “What’s important is a championship.”
Luka Doncic will be a force in the NBA for a very long time. Although he’s currently in his second playoff series ever, there’s a great chance that he has many more in his future. He’s got his eyes on an NBA Finals appearance and bringing Dallas another championship.
