The New Orleans Pelicans are going to obviously do everything humanly possible to retain all-world forward Anthony Davis, and that reportedly includes the offer of a massive new contract.
According to The Times-Picayune, Davis will be presented with a five-year extension that exceeds $143 million Wednesday.
The Pelicans also want to re-sign center Omer Asik:
Other than making an assertive to push to sign star power forward Anthony Davis to a five-year extension that exceeds $143 million starting on July 1, the Pelicans next order of business is making a push to re-sign starting center Omer Asik.
Sources say the Pelicans will make a push to bring Asik back, although he sputtered in their first-round playoff series this past April against the eventual NBA champion Golden State Warriors. But despite his limited offensive skills, Asik ranked fifth in the NBA this season in rebounding percentage at 21.4 and he totaled 54 blocks. […] The Pelicans also inherited Asik’s bird rights from the Houston Rockets, which means they can go above the salary cap to re-sign him.
“We like our team, we like the players on our roster and we look forward to competing with these guys,” Pelicans general manager Dell Demps said last week. “If an opportunity presented itself to improve the team, we’ll look at it. We think we are going in the right direction.”
