The Toronto Raptors have agreed to a four-year, $85 million deal with guard Fred VanVleet, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. VanVleet was one of the most sought after free agents on the market.
VanVleet was a vital part of Toronto’s 2019 NBA title team and has emerged as important offensive piece for the Raptors heading forward. The combo guard shares a backcourt with Kyle Lowry.
The Detroit Pistons were also said to be in the mix for VanVleet but Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports reports that they ultimately walked away when the price got too high.
VanVleet averaged 17.6 points per game in 2019-20, his first full campaign as a starter. VanVleet’s four-year deal will run through the 2023-24 campaign, in parallel with the extension that Pascal Siakam inked with the team last year.
