The positive test comes after Ujiri says he attended a Giants of Africa event, their first in-person since 2019. For the sake of transparency, Ujiri said that the event was organized in compliance with current public health guidance. Everyone who attended had to be vaccinated and be wearing a mask when not eating or drinking.
Despite the precautions taken, other guests, including Ujiri, tested positive. Since then, Ujiri has returned home to quarantine for 10 days to monitor his symptoms and undergo more testing. The news comes after the Raptors shut down practice early Thursday due to health and safety protocols.
“We don’t want to live in fear of this virus, but COVID is a persistent enemy, Together we’ll defeat it,” Ujiri said at the end of the Raptors statement.
