Phoenix Suns: Offseason Summary 2020

When it comes to the most improved team of the offseason, the Phoenix Suns might take the crown. Not only were they able to acquire future Hall of Famer, Chris Paul, but they were also able to select in the top ten of the 2020 NBA Draft as well as sign several key free agents.

Once the dust settled, the Suns looked like a legit playoff team. Although they had to give up several key pieces of last seasons’ roster to make the moves they wanted to, it was a clear step towards wanting to win now with Devin Booker.

Biggest Acquisitions

  • Chris Paul: Acquiring Chris Paul might be one of the biggest trades in Suns history. While he is on an extremely large contract and getting up there in age, he showed last season in Oklahoma City that he can still raise the ceiling on the team he is playing for exponentially.
  • Jae Crowder: Every team needs guys who are just known for being winners, and Crowder is one of those guys. He’s been to the playoffs in seven straight seasons with four different teams. His mentality and playoff experience will be key for the Suns.

Biggest Losses

  • Ricky Rubio: Although he just turned 30 and will be exiting his prime shortly, Rubio was still a key piece for the Suns last season and part of their magical 8-0 record in the bubble. He did a ton for the direction of the franchise and its culture during his one year in Phoenix.
  • Kelly Oubre: One of the biggest fan favorites in Phoenix, Oubre will be missed for several reasons. He is still just 24 years old and would have been a good guy to re-sign and solidify into your core for the foreseeable future. However, when you have the chance to acquire Chis Paul, moving Oubre to make that happen is a no brainer.
