The Indiana Pacers are asking—nay, demanding—Paul George to switch positions this season, moving him closer to the hoop at the four-spot, and PG admits that he’s not exactly excited about the change.
George, though, says he’s keeping an open mind as the Pacers attempt to transform themselves into a high-powered offensive squad.
The 25-year-old two-time NBA All-Star bounced back from a horrifying right leg injury and appeared in the final six games of the 2014-15 campaign.
Per the AP and Indy Star:
“I feel better than the old Paul, I think I’ve improved and I hope to do even better,” he said. “I think you’re going to see it’s like night and day between Paul (No.) 24 and Paul (No.) 13.”
Now, almost 14 months after major surgery and with training camp set to open Tuesday, George has regained his footing and his confidence. […] “It’s tough to say. I’d say he’s 100 percent healthy and 90 percent back to the explosiveness, rhythm and timing,” Vogel said. “That hitch in his step seems to be gone. He just needs to get over that last hump with his rhythm and timing.”
“I don’t think I’m at that point in my career where I should be changing positions. I think guys do that later in their career. They put on weight, (begin) lacking physical attributes as far as being quick, so I don’t necessarily feel the need to play a different position, especially coming back into a new season and starting fresh again. So it’s a change, it’s definitely a change. We’ll see how it goes.” […] “I told them I’m open for a change. I wasn’t extremely thrilled about it when they first presented it to me,” George said, “but the way the league is going and my playing style, I think I can fit right into it. We’ll see how it goes during camp whether I’m comfortable with it or not, then we’ll just make that decision from there. But to start it out, I’m open for the change.”
