Amidst speculation that Manu Ginobili had played his final season, the 14-year vet took to his own website to announce that he will play in 2016-17. Ginobili did not say that he will return to the Spurs, but ESPN is reporting that he is expected to resign with the only team he has played for during his lengthy career. Ginobili signed a two-year deal with the Spurs last summer but declined his player option for ’16-17.
The Argentina native missed 12 games last season after suffering a testicular injury that required surgery. The guard averaged 9.6 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 rebounds last season. It was the first time in his career that he averaged under 10 points per game.
“The reality is that I feel more certain and I see it more clearly than last year,” Ginobili said. “The season went well for me and aside from the ‘minor’ incident in February I remained healthy. I definitely want to keep enjoying basketball for a little while longer.”
