Luka Doncic is simply spectacular at age 21. There are very few players in the history of the NBA that have accomplished what he has at this point in his career. After leading the Dallas Mavericks to a playoff birth, he took the LA Clippers to six games before being eliminated.
In the 2019-20 regular season, Doncic nearly averaged a triple-double with 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game. He ultimately finished fourth in MVP voting, ahead of guys like Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard and Jimmy Butler.
Now, heading into the 2020-21 season, Vegas is favoring Doncic to win the award outright. Sites like Odds Shark, SportsBetting.com and My Bookie among others have Doncic at the top of the pack.
Doncic is certainly talented enough to win the award, even at his young age. In fact, Derrick Rose was the youngest MVP in NBA history at age 22. However, it will likely come down to how the Mavs are as a team. In most cases, the MVP of the league is on a team who is near the top of their respective conference when it comes to their record.
If Doncic can have Dallas near the top of the Western Conference and put up the numbers that he did last season, he has a real shot at winning MVP.
