The Los Angeles Lakers will waive Quinn Cook, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Cook was set to earn $3 million in 2020-21 but only $1 million was guaranteed.
Cook will hit the free agency after winning a title with the Lakers in 2019-20. He averaged 5.1 points per game in 44 games with the club.
The 27-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent and, with a career three-point percentage of .407, shouldn’t have a difficult time finding a taker for his services heading forward.
The move gives the Lakers additional financial flexibility as they readjust their championship team around Anthony Davis’ forthcoming new max contract.
