The New York Knicks have been one of the NBA’s feel-good stories this season, playing with a renewed energy while led by head coach Tom Thibodeau, All-Star big man Julius Randle and an up-and-coming star. With their recent signing of second-year center Norvel Pelle, that trend only continues.
Per the Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania, the Knicks have signed Pelle to a multi-year deal following a pair of two-way contracts.
Per the New York Post’s Marc Berman:
“Norvel was terrific,” Thibodeau said. “He’s been putting in a lot of extra work. He’s still finding his way, learning the system. But his length, shot blocking, the rim protection, is huge for us.”
Pelle is 6’11” with a 7’3″ wingspan and and 32.5″ max vertical.
A West Indian center who immigrated to the U.S. in his childhood, his unconventional story includes not only a blue collar working family but three different high schools, academic issues and extensive experience playing internationally and in the NBA G League.
Now 28-years-old, Pelle is set to play his first career games under a standard NBA contract.
