Klay Thompson on Return to Playing Basketball: ‘It’s so Exciting’

The Golden State Warriors are already off to a scorching hot start this season, and soon they may be adding a multi-time All-Star to the ranks.

According to Kerith Burke of NBC Sports, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said that Klay Thompson is back to playing 5-on-5 basketball and is going “full bore.”

On Tuesday, Thompson also spoke to media, including Nick Friedell of ESPN, and talked about his return to play and how excited he is to be back on the court.

“It’s so exciting … the boring stuff’s behind me — I’m just incredibly grateful to be out there,” Thomspon said per Friedell.

Thompson has been out since the 2019 NBA Finals, missing the entirety of the 2019-20 season with a torn ACL and all of the 2020-2021 campaign with a torn Achilles injury.

When Thompson was last suited up for Golden State, he was one of the league’s best two-way players. Thompson has accumulated five All-Star appearances, was named to two All-NBA teams and was a member of the 2018-19 All-Defensive team.

Over his career, Thompson is averaging 19.5 points per game and is shooting 41.9 percent from distance.

So far this season, the Warriors have the best record in the NBA, sitting at 15-2 one game above the reigning Western Conference champion Phoneix Suns.
