Former NBA guard, Isaiah Thomas, will play for Team USA in the FIBA AmeriCup tournament that will take place in February, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
It’s been almost a year since fans have had the chance to see the two-time All-Star on the hardwood being that he’s been a free agent since February 2020.
Thomas took to Twitter announcing the exciting news:
Thomas received medical attention and surgery after a battle with a lingering hip injury that came about during his final season with the Celtics in 2016-17.
According to Michael Kaskey-Blomain, near the end of Thomas’ NBA run, he found himself being traded from team-to-team having tenures with the Cavaliers, Lakers, Nuggets and the Wizards where he averaged 12.2 points and 23.1 minutes. The Wizards traded him to the Clippers who in turn waived him.
This new opportunity with Team USA may be I.T’s gateway to showcase his talent and wake NBA teams up as he has been eyeing to make a return to the league since last year.
