Waters was drafted in the 51st spot in the 2019 NBA Draft to the Boston Celtics. He played two years in Boston as a two-way player, but spent most of his time with Boston’s G-League team, the Maine Red Claws (now Celtics) capturing Rookie of the Year honors in 2019-20. He averaged 18.0 points, 7.3 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in 36 games.
Waters played 26 games with the Celtics last season with averages of only 3.8 points, 2.4 assists while shooting 40.5 percent from the field.
Waters’ signing is part of the defending champs’ efforts at overhauling the backup guard rotation with the addition of Grayson Allen and fellow former Boston Celtic Semi Ojeleye, who signed with the Bucks earlier this offseason.
