Brooklyn Nets: Offseason Summary 2020

With two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant finally ready to play, the Brooklyn Nets are set to start a new — and potentially prosperous — era in their franchise’s history.

Even if they don’t manage to secure a trade for Houston Rockets superstar James Harden, the Nets find themselves in prime position to make a surprise run through the Eastern Conference Finals. They had one of the most quiet offseasons of any team and everyone is wary of what Durant and Kyrie Irving can do with the Nets.

Biggest Acquisitions

  • Bruce Brown: Despite being one of the more unheralded players in the NBA, Bruce Brown has proven himself to be a well-rounded wing who can hang his hat on his defense. Brown could be one of the smartest trade acquisitions made by any team, as he’s a low-profile player with a indelible impact on both sides of the court.
  • Jeff Green: Veteran big man Jeff Green is still athletic at 34-years-old and although he’s streaky from beyond the arc, can still operate as a stretch-four or stretch-five with his length and mobility. He complements Brooklyn’s more traditional big men in DeAndre Jordan and Jarrett Allen.

Biggest Losses

  • Garrett Temple: A lanky veteran point guard with a high basketball IQ and solid perimeter shooting, Garrett Temple is a player that the Nets may have managed to replace during the offseason by trading for Bruce Brown. Nonetheless, Temple is the most productive player that Brooklyn lost this fall.
  • Jamal Crawford: Jamal Crawford was initially signed by the Nets to be a playmaker for the second unit, what he’s always done. With Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving ready to return to the court, perhaps the Nets no longer need an additional playmaker though; especially if the Nets stagger their minutes.
