The Golden State Warriors are aware of those who have thrown shade at their championship triumph last season, and center Andrew Bogut says they’ll use it as motivation in their quest for a repeat in 2015-16.
Bogut jokes that he’ll be wearing his ring on his middle finger for all the haters.
The big guy can’t understand teams who have never won anything chirping about the Dubs’ success.
Per The Pick and Roll (via the Fitz & Brooks podcast):
“I’ve actually got my [championship] ring fitted for my middle finger, so they can kiss that one,” Bogut deadpanned. He went on to elaborate on the concept of respecting success. “I just don’t understand that. We respect all previous champs. We’ll respect future champs. They don’t want to respect us, so be it.
“We’ve got a ring. We did all the hard work. We know what it takes. We don’t need any more motivation, but if they want to throw some at us, we’ll definitely put it on a board and be aware of that. […] It’s one thing taking it from a team that’s won a championship, taking those kind of criticisms. But from a team that hasn’t? It’s kind of dead air.”
Bogut also outlined his belief in the Warriors’ goals this season; mainly to stay healthy and not change too much on what has obviously been a formula to success in the previous season. He also spoke highly of teammate James McAdoo, who had conducted himself well during training camp.
