With the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks appearing as Andre Drummond’s preferred destinations on Saturday, the star center has decided where he will be signing after reaching a buyout agreement with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Drummond “intends to sign” with the Lakers once he clears waivers on Sunday evening, a team that has been the perceived favorite of Drummond’s for weeks.
On the court, Drummond’s decision makes plenty of sense, particularly as the two-time All-Star can play a large role on offense in the absence of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Even when the duo returns, Los Angeles has been looking to upgrade their play at the pivot throughout the season, with 36-year-old Marc Gasol averaging career-lows of 4.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game, with the bulk of his scoring contributions coming from behind the line. A more domineering interior presence than any the Lakers currently have, Drummond should be able to flourish in LA, particularly after James and Davis return.
