If you’ve been keeping up with our NBA Kicks of the Night posts, you’ve probably noticed an uptick in the number of players electing to rock a brand new shoe from Nike, the “Run The One.” Until now, we didn’t know much about it, beyond its slick aesthetic and low cut.
Now, thanks to an inside look from Nike Basketball, we know that the design is a collaborative effort including the work of Nike Basketball Footwear Design Director Leo Chang and new Nike Basketball designer Tony Hardman. And per Nike, “the Nike Zoom Run The One is a complete shoe, ideal for point guards who rely on quick acceleration and rapid changes in direction. The shoe’s name derives from the point guard position, known as the ‘1’ position and ‘running the one.'”
“We designed the Run The One for the skillset of dynamic guards,” Hardman says via Nike. “As we observe the DNA of traditional point guards evolve, we evolve the modern basketball shoe — and it no longer has to be a bulky high-top.”
James Harden likes the shoe for its low cut with Nike Flywire technology for support and multidirectional traction thanks to the outsole pattern. Plus, the sock-like fit makes for a smooth ride.
On November 15, you can cop Harden’s limited-edition red/volt colorway of the Nike Zoom Run The One you see above.
