The NBA G League is about to receive a new team for their upcoming season.
For 2021-22 the G League will finally add the Mexico City Capitanes to the schedule, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania. The Capitanes were announced in 2019 with plans to play in the 2020-21 season, but the pandemic delayed their plans.
The Capitanes do not plan on having an NBA affiliate for this season or future seasons.
The general manager of the Capitanes will be the former director of basketball operations for the South Bay Lakers, Nick Lagios. Lagios spent five years with the Lakers before being announced as the new general manager for the Capitanes.
The G League has yet to announce the schedule for the upcoming season.
