After backing off from his verbal commitment to Alabama last month and reopening his recruitment, 5-star wing Terrance Ferguson once again became one of the most sought after prospects in the Class of 2016. The top-15 national prospect had recently made a visit to Arizona just before the McDonald’s All-American Game and in that past had made unofficial visits to Kansas and Maryland. He revealed on Monday that he’d be announcing his college decision this week, which basically eliminated UNC from contention after telling reporters last week that he would visit Chapel Hill sometime this week. Based on a tweet from him on April 2nd, he also considered NC State, Baylor, Kansas and Maryland along with the Wildcats.
The 6-7 blue-chipper shocked many last summer when he made a verbal pledge to then recently named head coach Avery Johnson and the Crimson Tide. But after not signing a letter of intent during the fall signing period, rumors began to swirl that Ferguson might be looking to reopen his recruitment. Last week, he earned MVP at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland (OR) after hitting an event-record 7 three-pointers on his way to a game-high 21 points. He is highly regarded for his versatility.
In the end, Arizona won the sweepstakes for his services, per his Twitter page.
