According to Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers, the team’s fanbase shouldn’t fret about forward Draymond Green’s looming restricted free agency.
It sounds like the Dubs plan to match any offer Green may get on the market this summer.
The 25-year-old Michigan native fended off rumors earlier this season that he was interested in playing for the Detroit Pistons.
Per the Contra Costa Times:
“Tell the Warrior fans they shouldn’t worry,” Myers said Tuesday as the team held its shootaround session in preparation for Game 6 at the Quicken Loans Arena.
“He has tremendous value,” Myers said. “I think that’s apparent to anyone who watches our team. It’s apparent to us. There’s a lot that he does that people don’t even see, that’s off the court, as far as being a leader in the ways that he is. […] But yeah, his value to us is extremely high. We’re clearly not in this position without him. He checks so many boxes as far as leadership, effort, intensity, skill, winning.”
Myers said it was not immediately obvious when the Warriors drafted Green from Michigan State with a second-round pick in 2012 that he could become the player he is. […] “I always tell people, there’s always such a rapid reaction to any draft pick or trade,” Myers said. “You have to let things settle and give ’em time, especially with young players. Then you evaluate it, whether it’s two years, three years. It’s a very impatient and impulsive society in terms of grading anything. So sometimes the long view is the better one to take with players. Certainly it wasn’t as if (Green) came into the scene the way he has developed. It’s a testament to his work ethic, being ready when his number was called and stepping into the role and filling it as well as he has.”
