On Sunday, January 2, 2011, Villa will host its 4th Annual Villa Holiday Classic, a one-day tournament that will feature match-ups between some of the East Coast’s best high school basketball teams.
Beginning at noon, attendees can expect to see four impressive New York-Philadelphia match-ups during this year’s Nike Basketball and 100.3 The Beat sponsored event. The games are as follows:
12:00pm- Dobbins Tech vs. 2009 Villa Holiday Classic champion, Bishop Loughlin
1:45p- NYC Public League Champion, Boys and Girls High School vs. two-time Philadelphia Public League Champion, Imhotep Charter School
3:34pm- Penn Wood High School vs. Rice High school, featuring a match-up between two Big East small forward recruits, Jermaine Sanders (Cincinnati recruit) and Aaron Brown (West Virginia recruit)
5:45pm- NYC Catholic League Champion, Christ the King vs. Philadelphia Catholic League Champion, Neumann Goretti.
The tournament will take place at the University of Pennsylvania’s Palestra Arena, which has been open since 1927 and is notably the oldest sports venue in the United States still in operation.
There will be special performances by Diggy Simmons and Tyga.
