Point guard Aaron Brooks, who spent the lockout-shortened season playing in China, has reportedly agreed to a contract with the Sacramento Kings. A former winner of the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award, Brooks last played for the Phoenix Suns. SactownRoyalty.com has the details: “When it rains it pours. According to Kings Play-by-Play Announcer Grant Napear, Free Agent PG Aaron Brooksis coming to Sacramento. Brooks himself seems to back this up with a tweet from his verified account. No contract details have been reported yet, but after this morning’s acquisition of James Johnson, the Kings had just $2.5 million left in cap space. This move is one that has been seen as a long time coming by Kings observers as Geoff Petrie has liked Brooks for a while now. Without any other moves, this puts the Kings roster at 15, which is max capacity.”
UPDATE: Sports Illustrated’s Sam Amick reports that Brooks’ deal “averages $3.3 million on a two-year deal, player option in the second year.” Additionally, to make room for Brooks, the Kings waived center Hassan Whiteside.
