Russell Westbrook trade rumors dominated the headlines last week as reports came out that the Celtics are a likely destination for the superstar guard. However, Westbrook has not publicly stated that he wants to be anywhere else but OKC.
The Thunder front office now face a conundrum: either the team rolls the dice and hope that they do enough to convince Westbrook to stay, or move him during the season and not have to face the prospect of losing two superstars in two years.
According to Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman, Westbrook has not told the Thunder that he wants to be traded and that he’s up for the challenge of leading the team in Durant’s absence:
Westbrook has given the Thunder no indication that he currently wants out. To the contrary, one source described him as ticked off about the Kevin Durant departure, determined for this new challenge and eager for the season to start: “He’s ready.”
