The Memphis Grizzlies suffered a demoralizing 93-82 loss Tuesday night to the visiting Utah Jazz, and did so without the services of defensive ace Tony Allen.
Allen was suspended for the game, after reportedly getting into a dust-up with teammate Nick Calathes.
The Grizz are in Houston for a Wednesday night clash with the Rockets, and Allen will be back in uniform.
Per the Commercial Appeal:
“This is a game we should have won. It was a bad loss,” backup point guard Nick Calathes said. “They played better than us. That’s a game we needed to win no matter who we had on the court. We’re all capable of stepping up.”
Allen was suspended for the game because of violating a team policy. […] After more digging into the issue, Allen’s physical confrontation was apparently with Calathes during practice. Frustration clearly is building with the team playing poorly and the starting unit lacking consistent and forceful play.
Allen was on the team’s flight to Houston last night and is expected to play against the Rockets. How (head coach David) Joerger and the players, not just Allen, rebound from this brush with turmoil bears monitoring.
