Ray Allen has not played in the NBA since 2014, but for the past two seasons rumors of a comeback have been swirling. Today, those rumors have been put to bed as Allen has announced his official retirement in a letter to his younger self with The Players Tribune.
In the letter, Allen goes through his childhood as a military brat, to playing at UConn, to his 18 years in the NBA before saying that he is done with professional ball for good:
I write this to you today as a 41-year-old man who is retiring from the game. I write to you as a man who is completely at peace with himself.
Allen leaves the game as a 10-time All-Star, a two-time champion and the League’s all-time 3-point scorer.
