Matthew Dellavedova’s unlikely rise from Australia to the NBA is getting the Hollywood treatment. A report from Fox Sports Australia says that Delly and his manager, Bruce Kaider, have teamed up with L.A. producers Zachary Green and Jason Shuman to produce a film based on the point guard’s life.
In 2015, a report circulated that a Delly-inspired film or scripted series was in the works, but the latest update seems to imply that the project will be biographical. The film is set to start production in 2017 and will be an underdog story in the same vein as classic flicks like Hoosiers and Rocky.
More from Fox Sports Australia:
“I am thrilled to be working with this incredible group to tell my story to inspire kids around the world to dream big and that hard work and perseverance pays off,” said Dellavedova.
Production is set to commence in Australia in 2017, with the film aiming to emulate the likes of Hoosiers and Rocky, according to the release.
“Delly’s inspirational story about overcoming the odds is one everyone can relate to,” Kaider said. “In real-life, it played out just like a movie.”
The film will be produced by Green and Shuman, with Dellavedova and Kaider serving as executive producers.
“Everyone dreams of the one in a million chance of playing in the NBA, but this clue-collar kid actually achieved it,” Green said. “I am looking forward to bringing his story to the big screen.”
