Advanced age? Having no idea what kind of player he’ll be following a devastating Achilles injury? No matter, say the Los Angeles Lakers. They’ve given Kobe Bryant a huge, new contract. The Black Mamba will remain the League’s highest-paid player, which will make the next two seasons in Hollywood very interesting. Per ESPN and the LA Times:
Kobe’s contract will be $23.5 million and $25 million, source tells ESPNLA.

“Bryant was eligible for an extension starting at $32 million. Currently recovering from an Achilles injury, Bryant will remain the NBA’s highest paid player despite accepting a discounted deal. With Bryant under contract, the Lakers project to have between $19 million and $20 million in spending power under the NBA’s salary cap next summer. […] The Lakers have started the season 7-7, matching last year’s campaign through 14 games. Bryant has yet to take the court, although he has resumed practicing with the team and will accompany the Lakers on their three-game road trip. Coach Mike D’Antoni said Bryant will not play on Tuesday when the Lakers visit the Washington Wizards.”
