Kevin Love in No Mood to Celebrate Latest Milestone

Kevin Love keeps making history — the latest feat being his 51st straight double-double, tying Love with Moses Malone — but the Timberwolves‘ constant losing is making it tough to feel any joy. From the Pioneer Press: “When Love tied former Philadelphia 76ers great Moses Malone with 44 consecutive double-doubles on Feb. 23, the Wolves lost to Memphis at Target Center. Love matched Malone again in Monday night’s home game against Dallas, but the Wolves lost this one, too. ‘I would be jumping for joy and ecstatic right now if we were winning and everybody was playing great, including myself,” a dejected Love said after the Mavericks’ 108-105 victory. ‘The streak is kind of an afterthought because we didn’t win the game.’ The Wolves’ 50th loss of the season made it difficult for Love to embrace his 51st consecutive double-double, which tied Malone for the NBA’s longest double-double streak since the NBA-ABA merger in 1976. Malone put his streak together over the 1978-79 and 1979-80 seasons. Love hit a three-pointer with 7:45 left in the third quarter to extend his streak. The shot was one of four three-pointers he made against Dallas en route to a 23-point, 17-rebound performance. Though Love has mixed feelings about the streak because of the Wolves’ chronic losing, the home crowd of 13,288 didn’t seem to care that the team has the NBA’s second-worst record (15-50). Love received a standing ovation when he stepped to the free-throw line 23 seconds after securing his double-double for the night, the first stoppage in play after his memorable three-pointer. The video scoreboard flashed the message that Love’s streak had reached 51. ‘That was one of those moments where you pinch yourself to see if it’s real,’ Love said. ‘It felt great to see the crowd on their feet like that. I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like in here when we start winning and turn the corner.'”
