Kevin Durant Says Loss To Spurs Was a ‘Slap In The Face’

The Warriors got absolutely crushed by the Spurs in Kevin Durant’s regular season opener with Golden State. Getting blown out 129-100, the Dubs were overpowered by Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Jonathon Simmons, who combined for 81 points and 23 rebounds. After the game, KD admitted that the loss “woke up” the Warriors:

“It’s a slap in the face. It woke us up a bit, and we’re looking forward to getting better.

“There’s a lot of energy in the building. It was a lot before the game,” Durant said. “Guys may have been a little tense, but hey, that’s NBA basketball.”

Steve Kerr put some of the blame for the performance on himself and said that the team was “embarrassed:”

“I didn’t have them ready to play, obviously,” the coach said. “I think the guys were embarrassed tonight. I know I was.”

Golden State will have a chance to bounce back Friday night against the Pelicans.
