The rumor seemed quite crazy when it first surfaced, but now it appears to be reality. The Houston Rockets will reportedly send Luis Scola packing in their latest desperate bid to acquire Dwight Howard (or another superstar player, maybe even two.) Per Yahoo! Sports: “Houston has decided to use the amnesty provision on Luis Scola and will likely file with NBA on Friday, league sources say. Scola has three years and $21 million left on his contract. The Rockets are clearing space in pursuit of a Dwight Howard deal. The Rockets will soon have the space to absorb Orlando’s Dwight Howard, Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu, Chris Duhon and Epcot Center. The Mavericks will be aggressive bidders for Scola on the amnesty wire, league sources said. Dallas is serious about Elton Brand too. Once Houston amnesties Scola, Rockets will be able to absorb 2nd max deal next summer in addition to Howard now. Gives them chance for [Chris Paul]. There’s no Howard-to-Houston deal imminent with amnesty of Scola, but Rockets’ goal is unmistakable: They’ll stop at nothing to get him.”
