Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams addressed the legal troubles facing Raymond Felton – Williams says it’s not wise to carry heat in Gotham. Felton will reportedly suit up for the Knicks Thursday night in Miami after posting $25,000 bail. Per the NY Post:
“I got my license to carry in like 26 states, but I’m not bringing my gun to New York City,” Williams said before the Nets practiced at UCLA on Tuesday and before they traveled up the coast for Wednesday night’s game with the Trail Blazers. “I know better than that.”
New York has among the strictest state laws on gun control in the country.
“It’s a tough situation,” Williams said. “I wish the best for Ray. I know Ray well. That’s tough for him.”
Felton surrendered to police early Tuesday and then was charged with two counts of weapons possession, one felony and one misdemeanor — facing a maximum of seven years in prison. Felton’s case was adjourned until June 2 and the Knicks point guard left Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday night on $25,000 cash bond, posted by his mother.
Felton, under a restraining order, departed without commenting on the latest troubling saga that began when his estranged wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton, who recently filed for divorce, allegedly brought his unlicensed handgun to police at the 20th Precinct on the Upper West Side.
The NBA is going to wait to see what the legal ramifications are for Felton. So, because there are no travel restrictions, Felton is expected to play against the Heat. The Knicks declined to issue any comment Tuesday.
