Ben Simmons Will Be ‘Groomed’ To Play Point Guard For Sixers

While in Summer League, Philadelphia 76ers rookie Ben Simmons‘ playmaking abilities were on full display, prompting head coach Brett Brown to predict that Simmons “is going to have some taste of point guard for sure.”

On Friday, Brown took the prediction a step further, saying that he thinks that the 6-10 Simmons will eventually become the Sixers’ point guard.

The Sixers are hopeful that Simmons, who is currently sidelined with a broken right foot, will make his NBA debut in January.

From ESPN:

Simmons, the Sixers No. 1 overall draft pick in June, is currently rehabbing from surgery to repair an acute Jones fracture in his right foot, but Philadelphia’s head coach Brett Brown says he envisions eventually utilizing the Australian as a point guard when he returns from injury.

“My intention is to give him the ball,” Brown told ESPN. “I think that ultimately he’s going to be groomed to be a point guard.”
