The NY Post has sources insisting that Johnson is the man for the gig, but the New Jersey Nets have yet to confirm anything: “There has been no firm offer. But there have been talks with representatives — and former Mavs coach Avery Johnson is looking more and more like the choice to fill the coaching vacancy for the Nets. Reps for Johnson were in the New York-New Jersey area Monday and flew out yesterday, it was learned. Nets president Rod Thorn has maintained his tight-lipped stance about any and all candidates, simply acknowledging the process is ‘moving and ongoing’ and that he has no timetable for a hire. But several sources insist that Johnson has been and remains the leading choice — and that there were additional conversations with Thorn this week. One source felt a deal was close to being finalized, but Thorn insisted, ‘I have made no offer.'”
