The Sioux City Journal has the report: “Declining a scholarship offer from Roy Williams and the University of North Carolina wasn’t easy, to be sure. Still, there were plenty of compelling factors that led East High basketball star Adam Woodbury to cast his lot with the University of Iowa. Not the least of these was the tireless sales job pitched by second-year Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery. ‘I’ve never seen a guy work so hard to get a player,’ said Rick “Ras” Vanderloo, the longtime East assistant coach who recently took the Black Raiders’ head coaching reins when his brother, Jeff, joined the basketball staff at Creighton University. ‘I’d hate to guess how many hours he (McCaffery) put into this,’ said Vanderloo after Woodbury made his decision known at a media event Wednesday night in the East High gym. ‘Next fall, I’ll be attending the University of Iowa to play basketball for Coach Fran McCaffery,’ announced Woodbury, drawing mostly cheers from a gathering of perhaps 200.”
