Spencer Dinwiddie of the Brooklyn Nets was hoping to return from injury and re-join the team in the NBA Finals. However, after the Nets lost Game 7 to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night, that will not be happening.
Now that Brooklyn’s season is over, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that Dinwiddie plans to decline his $12.3M player option and enter free agency this offseason.
Dinwiddie has until Monday to make his decision on opting in or out. If he were to test the free agent waters, he should be able to demand a longer term deal earning close to that $12.3 million annually. Even after coming off of an ACL injury, Dinwiddie projects to be a highly efficient combo guard for years to come.
Just 28 years old, he’s proven he can be a quality starter for a team or be one of the best sixth men in the NBA off the bench.
Dinwiddie only played in three games during the 2020-21 season, but the season before he split time as a starter and reserve, averaging 20.6 points, 6.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.
We’ll know more in the next few days, but it appears Spencer Dinwiddie is going to be the next big name added to the free agency mix.
