Never a franchise that’s okay with settling, the Miami Heat are looking to take their roster to the next level this season after falling short in the 2020 NBA Finals last fall.
Currently 21-18 and fourth in the Eastern Conference standings, HoopHype’s Michael Scotto reports that Miami has expressed interest in acquiring Kyle Lowry from the Toronto Raptors ahead of the Mar. 25 trade deadline in a package that could include Goran Dragic, Kelly Olynyk and Kendrick Nunn.
Winners of 10 out of their last 11 games, a Heat team that had a mediocre start to the 2020-21 season is starting to find it’s stride. Nonetheless, Miami knows as well as any franchise how competitive an NBA roster needs to be in order to win an NBA championship.
Lowry, on an expiring contract, could legitimately be the piece that the Heat are missing.
An upgrade over both Dragic and Nunn (a 3-point specialist with a career 3-point percentage of .351), Lowry’s combination of on-court talent, league experience, veteran leadership and toughness are right up the Heat’s alley.
Through 31 games this season, Lowry is averaging 18.1 points, 7.3 assists and 5.5 rebounds per contest while shooting .445 percent from the field and .397 percent from deep.
