The Brooklyn Nets have gotten off to an impressive start to the 2020-21 season. That being said, they’ve already had some bad luck with injuries.
As first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Dinwiddie will miss the remainder of the season with a partial ACL tear in his right knee that he suffered Sunday night against the Hornets. While he likely won’t be able to return this season, he is expected to return fully healthy by the start of next season.
Dinwiddie also tore his ACL in college at Colorado but it was his left knee. He went to Instagram on Monday to reflect on his injury both then and now.
Dinwiddie has a $12.3M player option in offseason, allowing him to come back for one more season with the Nets to improve his value, or opt out and become a free agent this summer. Regardless, he will have a variety of suitors.
Spending time as both a stater and high-caliber sixth man in recent years, Dinwiddie averaged 20.6 points and 6.8 assists per contest last season. This will be a major blow to the Nets, but with the depth they have on their roster, there is no question they should still be considered a contender.
