Milwaukee Bucks veteran Wesley Matthews will not exercise his player option for the 2020-21 season, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. The 34-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent on Nov. 20.
Matthews signed a two-year, $5.3 million deal with the Bucks last offseason and started 67 games for the team in 2019-20.
While it’s possible that Matthews returns to Milwaukee, he’ll be able to gauge the market before he does.
Matthews’ player option in 2020-21 was worth slightly more than the veteran minimum on account of it including a raise from 2019-20, so he’d be leaving approximately $100K on the table if he just signs another minimum deal this time around.
