With COVID-19 having infected roughly 2.16 million in the United States, Damian Lillard admits that he does not “feel 100 percent comfortable” about returning to play, but says it’s a risk he’s willing to take.
While guesting on SportsCenter on Monday, Lillard pointed to the financial and social impact that players can have if they return to play.
“I don’t feel 100 percent comfortable, but it’s a risk that I’m willing to take,” Lillard said. “This is what we do. This is our job. This is how we take care of our families. It’s my way of providing for communities, impacting my communities.”
Lillard added that he also understands the players are questioning whether the League should return amid the protests for racial justice.
“I can only speak for myself—but I think it goes for other guys as well—we are the financial support for our families and for a lot of our community,” Lillard said. “But I think a lot of guys in the league have a point. I think Kyrie and Dwight have a point. So I understand it all.”
