Less than a year after retiring from the NBA, veteran point guard Darren Collison is contemplating an NBA comeback, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
The two teams at the top of his list of preferred destinations are the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.
Collison decided to leave the game prior to free agency despite the fact that he could have realistically sought a contract north of $10 million in 2019-20. At the time Collison said that he was retiring to focus more on his family and faith.
Collison averaged 11.2 points and 6.0 assists per game for the Indiana Pacers last season and would make an incredibly valuable depth piece for a contender looking to add additional weapons to its bench.
The 32-year-old has long been an elite reserve and spot starter, dating back to the early days of his career when he spelled young New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul.
Wojnarowski writes that a comeback isn’t likely to come prior to the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline given that both the Clippers and Lakers remain very much interested in potential buyout candidate Andre Iguodala.
