New Orleans Pelicans Waive Nate Robinson

The Pelicans need help at point guard, and Nate Robinson will not be the man to provide it.

The Pelicans released Robinson on Thursday, two days after he started against the Warriors in the season opener.

New Orleans is expected to sign Toney Douglas, who appeared in 12 games off of the bench for the Pelicans last season.

From NOLA.com:

In somewhat of a suprising move, the New Orleans Pelicans released veteran point guard Nate Robinson on Thursday, two days after he started against the Golden State Warriors in the season opener.

But backup point guard Ish Smith, who was signed on Monday, clearly outperformed Robinson on opening night and against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.

The Pelicans’ roster now stands at 14 and there is a chance Pelicans general manager Dell Demps could look to fill the final spot roster with another point guard. ESPN reported that the Pelicans are interested in signing journeyman guard Toney Douglas, who was waived by the Indiana Pacers on Monday.
