Already known as one of the most exciting finishers in the prep scene, Derrick Jones — a Philadelphia native who has committed to attend UNLV next year — lived up to the billing during the weekend at the City of Palms Classic in Florida. The highflying 6-6 small forward had the crowd buzzing during the showcase’s dunk contest with his acrobatic finishes. Not only was he hammering them down during the dunk contest. During Day 2 of the tournament in a game against a team from California, Jones sent a defender to the ground after a two-hand jam over him. As insane as his hops are, what’s more insane is that he’s still only a high school kid.
