DeMarcus Cousins will be suiting up for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats according to Chris Lawlor of ESPN.com. At 6-10, the #1 ranked center in the nation according to just about every media outlet and scouting services will follow Calipari to Kentucky after verbally committing to him at Memphis during a visit to the campus last month. Cousins had previously committed to the University of Alabama-Birmingham during his junior year. Otis Hughley, Cousins’ high school coach at LeFlore HS, confirmed it to espn.com on Tuesday. “He told me tonight he’s going to Kentucky,” said Hughley. “He didn’t say much after John Calipari left Memphis and, I told him I was there for advice and counsel, whatever he needed. I am happy he made a decision quickly and didn’t allow it to drag out.”
After finishing with 14 points and 8 rebounds at the McDonald’s All-American Game, Cousins will be in Portland this weekend for the Nike Hoop Summit which will take place on Saturday at the Rose Garden Arena. The weekend after, he will be in New York City for the Jordan Brand Classic on April 18th at Madison Square Garden. He now joins Jon Hood, a 6-6 small forward from Madisonville North Hopkins HS in Kentucky and Daniel Orton, a 6-10 center from Bishop McGuinness HS in Oklahoma, as part of the Wildcats’ 2009 recruiting class.
