This Saturday, July 28, the Malone Mulhall Benefit Game will be held at Long Island’s Adelphi University, with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
San Antonio Spurs swingman Danny Green, along with Scott Machado (Houston Rockets NBA Summer League), Sylven Landesberg (New York Knicks NBA Summer League), Justin Burrell (Golden State Warriors NBA Summer League), Paris Horne (Charlotte Bobcats NBA Summer League) and several other basketball players from New York will participate in the star-studded event. NBA Hall-of-Famer Chris Mullin and national commentator Mike Breen will serve as celebrity coaches for the teams, and Tobias Harris of the Milwaukee Bucks will be in attendance to meet fans and sign autographs. SLAMonline will also be on hand throughout the day.
The event honors the loss of three close friends—Michael Mulhall, Jamie Malone and Paige Malone. On July 15, 2010, Michael, Jamie and Paige were on their way to work at Camp ANCHOR, a recreational summer camp for the mentally and physically handicapped population of all ages, when their daily commute turned into a fatal accident.
The Malone Mulhall Benefit Game was started to commemorate the three friends and their lifelong work with ANCHOR. This game serves as a reminder of the value they placed on community. Think of the game not as a memorial event, but an opportunity to allow friends and neighbors to come together in a way the three friends would have loved.
Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $15 for adults, and $10 for children ages 12 and under. All proceeds will be donated to the Jamie and Paige Malone Foundation and the Michael Mulhall University of Scranton Scholarship. If you’re in the New York City/Long Island area, we hope to see you there!
