Larry Bird’s relationship with David Morway, the current general manager in Indiana, has apparently fallen apart. The Indy Star reports that Bird would like to hire Kevin Pritchard to take Morway’s gig: “Bird wants to replace general manager David Morway with Kevin Pritchard, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation. Morway has worked with Bird since former Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh left the organization for the New York Knicks in 2008. Despite having Morway as general manager, it has been Bird who has made 100 percent of the basketball decisions — good or bad — over the past four years. Morway recently interviewed for the Portland Trail Blazers general manager’s job that went to Neil Olshey. Pritchard, a former general manager in Portland, was hired as the Pacers’ director of player personnel last summer. He had had more input than most with that title because Bird likes his basketball knowledge. Bird and Pritchard were teammates with the Boston Celtics.”
