National Powerhouse Rice HS to Close Next Month

One of the most well known basketball programs in the nation will reportedly be shutting down next month for good. Located in Harlem, NY, Rice features an alumni list that includes Felipe Lopez, Kenny Satterfield, Andre Barrett, Edgar Sosa, Kemba Walker, Lamont “MoMo” Jones and Duran Scott, among the many others. From the NY Post: “Unable to raise sufficient funds to secure its future, Rice High School will shut its doors for good on June 30, officials notified students on Monday, The Post has learned. The Harlem all-boys school saw its enrollment dwindle from 385 students to 232 this year, while the costs to operate the building on West 124th Street have resulted in a six-figure deficit. In a last ditch effort to save the school, Rice officials announced in March a plan that could have the school moving from its current location to the All Saints Elementary School building on East 130th Street, which the Archdiocesan would have leased to the school.”
