When you can’t convince an 18-year-old Spanish point guard to play, your next-step, naturally, must be to sign Ramon Sessions.
Or such is the logic of Wolves GM David Kahn. Razor Ramon has been in talks with the Knicks and Clippers this summer and neither team was willing to give the PG the deal he desired. The Knicks offered a one-year pact. The Clippers preferred Sebastian Telfair. And the Wolves? They’ve just extended a four-year, $16 million offer sheet:
The Wolves will announce, within the hour, that they have signed Bucks restricted free agent point guard Ramon Sessions to an offer sheet. Details are sketchy, but the offer has been made, according to a source.
The Bucks will have seven days to match the offer, which an ESPN report says is for four years and $16 million (the fourth year being a player option). Milwaukee, however, is close to the luxury tax threshold and it’s been widely reported that the team would be unlikely to match an offer to Sessions.
The Bucks have proven this summer that they’re trying to save as much money as possible, and with Brandon Jennings, Luke Ridnour and Roko Ukic, there’s less than a zero percent chance Milwaukee will match this offer.
It seems like just yesterday when Sessions came from the D-League, dropping 20+ assist nights at the end of the ’07-08 season. Come to think of it, that was just about yesterday. Boy, how quickly things change.
