For some time now, the Boston Celtics have insisted that their injured emotional leader, Kevin Garnett, would be ready to go once the postseason got underway. Well, it starts this weekend, and now they don’t sound too sure about KG’s status.
The Boston Herald has Doc Rivers’s reaction to the dicey situation:
Is Kevin Garnett going to play in the opening game of the playoffs? “I think so,” said Rivers, before pausing briefly and adding, “I don’t know, honestly.”
Knowing that may not be enough for curious fans, the coach was asked, if Garnett suffers no further injury to his right knee or otherwise in practice today or tomorrow, will he definitely play? “Yeah, he’ll play,” said Rivers. “And if we don’t like what we see he won’t. We haven’t seen him play, so we don’t know how it’s going to turn out (today). And then we don’t know how it’s going to feel the next day. We just don’t know that, so we’ll wait and see.”
Of course, it’s the Celtics and Bulls who are scheduled to officially kickstart the postseason this Saturday at 12.30 (in Boston).
Even if KG still wasn’t 100% healthy by the weekend and couldn’t play, one would have to imagine that the C’s and their fans won’t be too nervous going into this matchup.
