Stephon Marbury and Josh Childress: Teammates?

by Marcel Mutoni

According to several reports, Josh Childress (abdominal tear and all) might have to move aside as another hoopster from the NBA joins his Greek team. Stephon Marbury is apparently going to be mulling over an offer from Olympiacos.

ESPN has the scoop:

Representatives of the Greek club Olympiacos contacted the New York Knicks earlier in the day in an effort to begin a dialogue on what it would take to get Marbury released from his contract.

Marbury is aware of Olympiacos’ interest but has had no contact with the club, according to a source close to the Knicks, who said he expected additional dialogue on the subject over the next few days.

The NY Post says the Greek club is offering $15 million for Stephon’s services. Marbury – with the help of a rep from the Players’ Union – will begin negotiations with the Greeks this week.

This would be beyond ideal for Donnie Walsh and company, as they would not only avoid losing Marbury to a division rival, but he wouldn’t even be on the same continent with them anymore. For their sake, here’s to hoping this is not just another hoax from those wily Euros.
