Marbury on D’Antoni: ‘I Wouldn’t Trust Him to Walk My Dog Across the Street’

You knew the day was fast approaching, Knicks fans. Starbury, at last, revealed his true feelings: “We need to separate from the relationship,” he said. “The marriage is over. It’s a done deal.”

man, he was just one “ok coach, ill play” from ressurecting his career. if he would have played well and in a professional manner during the two match stint, dántoni would have been pressured to keep playing him and give him a chance….alas….

  • josesito Posted: Nov.28 at 9:45 am
or not, probably should have read the article first

  • Pve84 Posted: Nov.28 at 9:45 am
I don’t know about resurrecting his career, but he was at least close to shedding some light on his situation. If he played humbly and well in those two games he definitely would have gotten more playing time in the suddenly bleak Knicks’ season.

I have one solution for you Steph: PLAY IN EUROPE! Clubs like Panathinaikos or CSKA Moscow are waiting for you

  • B. Long Posted: Nov.28 at 10:06 am
    Meh.

  • Benoit Benjamin Posted: Nov.28 at 10:09 am
And a happy Thanksgiving to you Stephon. What a generous, giving guy.

  • Boing Dynasty Posted: Nov.28 at 10:22 am
I’d take him on the Raptors, Will Solomon? No thanks.

  • L Posted: Nov.28 at 10:40 am
damn what a waste..He would be a nice fit in orlando

  • Z Posted: Nov.28 at 11:05 am
Why is D’Antoni ‘asking’ him if he wants to play? That’s the part I don’t get. Put him in the 12 and call his name when you want to sub him in. Since when do coaches ask players whether they want to play or not.
From what I’m getting out of this he said that he ‘wasn’t comfortable with the situation’ but he never said flat-out no. I don’t think that Marbury would have gone as far as refusing to check in. Whatever, now it’s too late. It just needs to end.

  • Z Posted: Nov.28 at 11:07 am
Boston could use him. I don’t trust House. I don’t know if the bad blood with KG is over, though. San Antonio could definitely use him and I think Pop could keep him in line. Miami would be a great fit. Keep him away from Cleveland.

SO much drama. I feel like I’m watching a reality TV show. Maybe they should go on Jerry Springer to “work it all out”.

  • Roy Posted: Nov.28 at 11:37 am
    Word…

  • josesito Posted: Nov.28 at 12:02 pm
if they dont make a movie/ documentary/mockumentary or sitcom based on the post 2000 knicks then some studio exec isnt doing his job. Im tempted to think will ferrels Semi Pro was inspired by them,(numbskull owner/ bunch of misfits) but that movie was nowhere near as funny as what the knicks have been

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Nov.28 at 1:37 pm
“I didn’t create this,” Marbury added. “I’m sitting inside the car. I’m not behind the wheel in the driver’s seat. I have no control of the wheel of the car, if we’re turning or going straight. I’m sitting in the back seat. He’s not going to play me because my heart isn’t in it, because the way he treated me. That’s on him, not me.”

  • thasam Posted: Nov.28 at 1:39 pm
I don’t think anyone will ever ind out the true story, but there has to be more than what we have heard. Marbury knows that his career is on life support and playing well would do do so much more for him and any future he has in the league than sitting on the bench and collecting a check - if he wanted to do that he’d pull a Keith Van Horn and retire without filing papers. I think D’Antoni is indeed setting him up to look bad and knows he can get a way with out because no one in the media nor the fans would question him - in effect taking a page out of Larry Brown’s book. Donnie Walsh has to fix this mess fast before it ruins his chances of getting LeBron any other free agents in 2010 and the Knicks suffer the same fate as the post-Jordan Bulls; remember that Jerry Krause ran everyone out of town in part because he wanted to clear cap room sign KG and other big-name free agents in 2000 or 2001 and he ended up getting nobody because players around the league saw that they were treating their star players (and their coach) like s**t and wanted no part of it. Marbury certainly isn’t nearly as popular as Jordan and Pippen were, but players will find out some of the behind the scenes dirt that went on in this situation and it will impact whether or not they come to NY.

man…i´m a hardcore Starbury fan…but…that was way too disrespectful…even Dr.Phill cant make it beter..@Dean..man,i lived in Greece and believe me,Panathinaikos and CSSK are beter organized than many NBA teams, including NYK,so there is NO WAY they could even think of singing Marbury…I hope he ends in Greece and not Italy..we still love u Starbury

  • Dma Posted: Nov.28 at 10:32 pm
isn’t bassy mad at his family too for some stupid sh*t too? or is it the other way around?

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.29 at 12:22 am
@ starbury&stevey: LMFAO you think Greek clubs can beat NBA clubs? You must be joking. Better than the Knicks? My @ss. Wow, the even the Bobcats would beat these clubs you are talking about.

  • Lauri Posted: Nov.29 at 8:42 am
Europe does not want him..he would ruin panathinaikos..he is on of the worst characters EVER in NBA

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.29 at 3:12 pm
The funny thing is, Lauri, that Euroleague teams WOULD actually sign him, and maybe for a lot more than most European players make.

  • Aristotle Posted: Nov.30 at 1:48 pm
European teams play as a team. Marbury can’t do that. He’s been given his chances no matter how good a player he is. I love the guy, but he’s pushed his luck too much. Time to retire

  • luis Posted: Nov.30 at 3:05 pm
Don´t think Marbury would do well in Europe. I mean, Dominique Wilkins wasn´t unforgettable in Panathinaikos (despite winning the Euroleague, ok… but he didn´t OWN Europe). I don´t see why Stephon Marbury should be any better. And discipline counts as much in Europe as in the US, if not more… BTW, the NY Knickerbockers of today would certainly lose against some European teams, and Panathinaikos would be one of them…
FC Barcelona did beat the Sixers (with Iverson) some years ago…

  • chintao Posted: Dec.1 at 1:15 am
It seems like this whole problem arose because Walsh and D’Antoni weren’t on the same page. Walsh probably had plans to make some deals and realized that Marbury’s services would be required at some point during the season. D’Antoni tried to put his stamp on the team by marginalizing Marbury. Now, D’Antoni is short of hands, and he needs Steph to suit-up. Somehow though, Coach D can’t bring himself to reach-out to a player he deliberately alienated. Near as I can tell, the discussion probably went something like this: D’Antoni - Steph, now that Jamal’s gone, there are some minutes out there for you. Do you want them? Steph - Well, that depends. Do you see me as an integral part of the team’s plans going forward? D’antoni - No. Steph - Well then, I don’t think that it’s right for me to play. You should probably stick with playing guys who have a future here. D’Antoni - I was hoping you would say that. Now I can tell everyone that I wanted to play you, and that you refused.

  • grave dohl Posted: Dec.1 at 5:41 am
…i don’t understand how ANYone can actually still defend Marbury! He’s been a cancer on every team he’s been on; never been a teamplayer to begin with, is money-horny and a plain crazy moron, period.
He has some talent, yes, that’s never been the question. But he’s been an A-hole most of his career and it’s way too late to redeem himself now. Little heart behind his stupid mouth. Can’t imagine anyone of his burroughs being too proud of him now… Who cares what Walsh or ‘Antoni did or did not say or do. The Knicks are just starting to become slightly fun to watch again. Just get rid of him already, problem solved.

  • speedy Posted: Dec.1 at 5:54 am
    Dear Stephon,
If you wouldn’t be such a hustler and leave the money in New York you could have gone yesterday .
So please do us all a favor don’t let the Knicks pay you because you ain’t doing anything for it. F*ck off your Knicks fans

  • chintao Posted: Dec.2 at 1:42 am
I’m willing to bet that Stephon Marbury tends to polarize people along racial lines…. Can we hear from non-white people (Teddy “The Banana” Bear doesn’t count) who hate Steph?
